Dozens of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from Troop 150 in Bernardsville gathered on Olcott Square Monday night, Feb. 8, to light candles in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Boys Scouts of America (BSA). Local Boy Scouts mark 100th anniversary at the State Capital
courtesy of Frances Crutchfield Feb. 8 marked the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. With the assistance of some local Boy Scouts, Gov. McDonnell and the Virginia General Assembly received a special delegation of 25 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts & Venture Scouts in honor of the anniversary.

Five decades and counting. John Jeffrey’s tenure in Boy Scouts spans half the organization’s life. Boy Scouts of America this week celebrated its 100th anniversary, and nearly 53 years ago Jeffrey’s father dragged the 11-year-old to a troop meeting.

CHESTERFIELD: Boy Scout celebration delayed
The Burlington County Council of the Boy Scouts of America announced today it has postponed the county Centennial Scout Rally originally slated for Saturday, Feb. 6, in the Crosswicks section of Chesterfield. The announcement came amid forecasts of heavy snowfall in the area for the first half of the weekend.

Alex Strohl, 16, an Eagle Scout in Troop 7, has been a Boy Scout for 10 years. Before him, his father Jeffrey Strohl was a Boy Scout who grew up to become a troop leader. Son watched father and grew to share his love of the outdoors, along with the qualities that Boy Scouts instill in young people. “My dad is my role model. He is an Eagle Scout and has been our Scout leader,” Strohl said.
